Next, you need to identify how many calories you should be consuming each day. One factor that will determine this number is how fast you want to lose the extra weight.
In order to burn or lose 1 pound, you need to burn 3,500 more calories than you take in. This means you need to burn 500 more calories than you eat, each day, in order to lose 1 pound in a week. To lose 2 pounds per week, you need to burn 1,000 more calories than you take in each day.
Losing 1 to 2 pounds per week is generally considered a safe rate of weight loss. This can be achieved by eating less calories or exercising to burn more calories. A combination of the two will give you the best results.
