Is a vegetarian diet plan for you?

Many people wonder if a vegetarian diet plan could help them lose weight. Those people just may be on to something.

Research has shown that individuals following a vegetarian diet consume an average of about 500 fewer calories each day than non-vegetarians. Adding to that, the same research also showed they ate more than their meat eating counterparts.

This can be attributed to them consuming less animal fats. These, like all fats, have a higher concentration of calories per gram than protein and carbohydrates. The meat in their diets tended to be replaced with complex carbohydrates. These complex carbohydrates are fiber rich, starchy, food that is naturally low in fat.

We know 500 fewer calories each day totals 3500 calories cut out of your diet in an entire week. This equates to one pound of weight loss each week.

It’s important to remember, however, cutting meat out of your diet won't automatically lead to a calorie deficit. Some people won't notice any weight loss at all. This is because those meats need to be replaced by other foods. If those other foods happen to be milk and cheese, you may actually gain weight on your new diet plan!
